Start by choosing disease-resistant varieties – always a good practice. Spread mulch over the soil around the plants and avoid getting the plants' foliage wet whenever possible. For example, water with a soaker hose instead of a sprinkler. Also cut back on the amount of fertilizer used. Fertilizer encourages soft growth that's more likely to become diseased. If you see any spots, remove the affected leaves immediately. This can sometimes stop a disease from spreading further. |
